After Lady Lavett’s scream they hear more guards coming towards their location.
Rorek slams the door closed, and puts the holding bar across it.
He then rushes over and attempts to remove the ring from Lord Lavett’s body, but it won’t budge.
So instead Rorek cuts off his entire finger, and stuffs it into his pocket.
Nathaniel tries to pick up the body of the damsel, but finds he has to be careful as her brains start leaking out the back of her cracked skill.
Deciding that they might as well try and talk their way out of there first, they have Rorek reopen the door and just block anyone from entering.
Captain Albien of the local Man at Arms is waiting on the other side with another 6 guards.
He demand to know what’s going on.
Nathaniel tries to explain exactly what happened, but Lady Lavett he’s screaming over him about how they burst in and killed Lord Lavett.
Her words put Captain Albien on edge, and just as it looks like he’s about to order his guards to attack Rorek steps back and slams the door closed again.
While he’s holding it closed he gets Johann to get the bar in place to keep it closed.
Nathaniel leads them out through the servants entrance to the back narrow corridors.
Hearing noises coming from the left, he decides to lead the party to the right.
With no general idea of where he’s going he starts choosing his turns in an almost random manner, going straight through the next intersection, and left at the next one.
Coming to another intersection this time Nathaniel takes them right, which leads to a door in front of them and one to the left.
Matt squeezes up the front and has a listen at both doors.
He hears nothing from the one on the left, but ever so faint sounds from the one in front of them.
Nathaniel decides to press forward, and it opens up to one of the corridors they were patrolling earlier on the floor.
Dashing across the corridor, they go into the servants corridors on that side of the castle.
Following it straight and then to the right they reach their next 4 way intersection.
Nathaniel decides to lead them left at that intersection, and then heading straight through at the next one he arrives in a linen closest.
They spend a few minutes wrapping up the body of Lady Allaire, using extra padding to absorb the blood coming out of her head.
Going back to the last intersection Nathaniel turns left again, straight through the next one, and left at the one past that.
This time it leads him a door straight ahead, with nowhere else to go except back the way they came.
Matt listens again, but not hearing anything they open up the door to find steps leading downwards.
Going down the stairs they find another flight down, but with a door on this landing.
Nathaniel decides they should push on downwards, which leads them to a pantry off of a kitchen.
Figuring word hadn’t reached them yet of what was going on Nathaniel leads the Johann and Rorek right through the kitchen, trusting his air of authority to keep the peasants out of his way.
Once past the kitchen, Nathaniel orders one of the Servants to lead him to the Grail Chapel.
The servant is surprised at this, but doesn’t argue, leading him onwards.
The three of them follow the servant right through the main hall, but 12 guards at the front doors move in to detain them.
Nathaniel is able to convince them to let him deliver Lady Allaire’s body to the Grail Chappel first before they place him under arrest.
Outside of the building they see a lot of knights are mounting up, and find out that there’s some sort of attack happening on the town.
They even see the other two Damsel’s who were under Lady Allaire mounting up.
One of the Damsel’s upon seeing them and the body of Lady Allaire through the shroud dismounts and comes rushing over to them.
Nathaniel explains to her what’s going on, and how it was Lord Lavett who killed Lady Allaire.
The guard with them explains he has to detain them because they are under orders from Lady Lavett to see the three of them arrested.
Damsel Catherine orders them to be taken to the dungeons, and says she’ll handle things when the attack on the town is over with.
Nathaniel insists that the three of them, and even Matt, could help depend the town.
Knowing that the town will be pushed for good defenders if Lord Lavett is unavailable, agrees on the condition that they swear an oath to help and to return to the castle afterwards.
They swear the oath, and Damsel Catherine gives the order that the three of them, and Matt, are to be given temporary parole to help defend the town.
The guard salutes, and sends another guard to go and fetch Matt.
Once Matt arrives the four of them rush towards the main Norther gate.
The arrive just in time to see the gates forced open by a skeleton the size of a giant.
Nathaniel yells inspiring words for them all as they charge the giant and the other skeletons coming in through the gate.
The Giant upon hearing the screams locks its gaze on Nathaniel, which scares Nathaniel into silence.
Rorek continues to run forward and makes it to the front line of skeletons.
The giant Skeleton swings its club down at Rorek, but his dog once again shoves him out of the way and takes part of the blow.
Johann summons his magical arrows and shots them at the giant, causing parts of bone to break off from it.
Matt follows up with some quick shots of his own, each one breaking off parts of the brittle giants body.
The giant and the rest of the skeletons pouring in from the gate move in and dogpile upon Rorek, tearing at his skin.
Rorek is able to hold his own, cutting down skeletons left and right, with Britonian soldiers arrive to reinforce the lost gate.
With the concentrated fire of Johann and Matt, they’re able to bring down the Skeleton Giant.
Then with the help of the guards, Rorek is able to hold the gates long enough for the Britonian Calvary to circle around from the Eastern gate, and trample the rest of the attacking forces.
Once the battle is over Nathaniel is able to arrange for him, and everyone working for him, to be placed under house arrest in the house his servants were staying at.
It’s a bit cramped, but Nathaniel points out that it’s better than them being put into the dungeons.
The snow continues to fall despite the first month of Spring having almost passed.
In the morning after recovering from their battle at the gate, Rorek gives Johann the ring he took off of Lord Lavett’s body.
Johann follows the complex web of magic woven into the ring, before screaming in horror and passing out for the rest of the day.
Upon waking he doesn’t quite remember what he say, but even vague memories f it seem to have left him traumatised.
The next day Sir Phillipon arrives at their house with some guards, and demands Nathaniel hand over the Iron ring they took.
Nathaniel sends Rorek to go and get it from Johann.
Johann meanwhile had head this from another room, and runs upstairs before Rorek can reach him.
Quickly using some left over blacksmithing scraps, he uses his magic to sculpt a ring physically identical to the one they got off Lord Lavett.
Johann hands over the duplicate to Rorek, who passes it onto Sir Phillipon, with both of them believing it to be the real thing.
It’s only after Sir Phillipon has left that Johann tells everyone about the duplicate.
29 Jahrduring to 25 Pflugzeit
Almost a month passes of them being held under house arrest.
During this time the snow storm finally breaks, and the place starts to clear up.
The Spring Equinox comes and passes, and they celebrate the one year mark since they swore their oath of brotherhood to each other.
During that time they find out that Sir Phillipon has married Lady Simonne, with her marrying into his family.
They find out Damsel Catherine resided over it, with Sir Loup assisting.
Sir Phillipon ends up in charge of Brusse, and Lady Lavett is waiting for the trial to finish before she will move onto a warmer climate.
Sir Loup arrives to tell Nathaniel that his trial will commence tomorrow, and asks him to make a choice beforehand if it will be a proper trial or one of combat.
Sir Loup says he is most annoyed at Lords who choose a non-combat trial to start with, and then switch to a trial by combat when they realise they are losing.
After some consideration Nathaniel insists that he’ll be sticking with the non-combat trial, and won’t change this mind on the matter.
Nathaniel then hands over the real iron ring to Sir Loup and asks him to have Damsel Catherine closely examine it.
Sir Loup agrees, and leaves.
He later sends Nathaniel a message explaining that Damsel Catherine has examined it, and said that there is nothing unusual about it.
This news upsets the entire party, and they call Nathaniel a fool for handing it over.
They arrive the next day in the main hall ready for the trial.
They can see Lady Lavett is sitting right next to Lord Phillipon, and she seems determined to see them die for their crimes.
Captain Albien is there, but he seems confused how to regard them. Nathaniel guesses he’s likely conflicted between wanting to punish Lord Lavett’s killers, and respecting them for defending the town against the Giant Skeleton.
Lady Phillipon seems to be regarding them as nothing more than a nuisance.
Watching Lord Phillipon closely Nathaniel can tell from the mood in the hall that his grip on power here is still quite slight, and he likely still needs a lot of political favour until things have been secured with whatever Count is in charge of the area.
Seeing that, Nathaniel devices the plan to start playing off the crowd itself during the trial, in the hopes of having that sway Lord Phillipon more than anything else.
Just as Nathaniel is prepared to start the trial of killing Lord Lavett, he’s shocked when Lady Phillipon announces that the first trial of the day is about the peasant known as Matt sneaking into the Grail Chapel under Lord Rheinmetal’s orders.
Once everyone has had a moment to recover from the shock of that trial coming first, which is everyone in the hall beside Lord and Lady Phillipon, Nathaniel announces he wants that one done as a trial by combat.
Lord Phillipon accepts his request, asking for anyone to step forward to defend the Lady’s honour. Sir Loup steps forward as the champion of the Lady. Rorek is about to step forward as Nathaniel’s champion, when Nathaniel shocks everyone again by announcing that he will be fighting this battle himself rather than relying on a champion.
Rorek, Matt, and Johann all quietly call him an idiot and ask him to reconsider, but Nathaniel insists and the centre of the main hall is cleared aside for the two combatants.
Nathaniel and Sir Loup salute each other, before Sir Loup kneels to pray to the Lady before the beginning combat.
Nathaniel goes first and attempts to disarm Sir Loup, but fails horribly.
Sir Loup responds by lashing out with his sword and cutting the back of Nathaniel’s left hand.
While all of this is going on Nathaniel is trying his best to convince Sir Loup about the seriousness of the situation, the corruption of the ring, and how he has only done the honourable thing, trying to use the Britonian sword as proof of his honourable intent.
Nathaniel decides to stop trying something fancy and just tries to land a blow on Sir Loup, but it’s easily parried, before Sir Loup strikes out and injures Nathaniel’s other hand.
Nathaniel lashes out again, but Sir Loup ducks under the attack before catching both of Nathaniel’s wrists in his back swing.
This ends up cutting off both of Nathaniel’s hands, and sending them flying away.
Nathaniel screams in pain, but he refuses to give up trying to convince Sir Loup he is in the right.
He lashes out with his feet, and dislocates Sir Loup’s kneecap.
The Grail Knight grunts, and forces Nathaniel to his knees with his sword at Nathaniel’s throat telling him to surrender.
Nathaniel yells at him to look at the Britonian sword.
Upon seeing that the sword is standing up, with is point driven into the ground, and it’s now glowing softly, Sir Loup steps back from Nathaniel in shock.
He then turns to Sir Phillipon and announces that he is surrendering to Nathaniel, the entire hall goes quiet in shock over what they are seeing.
Matt, Johann, and Rorek rush in to help Nathaniel, with Matt using his priestly abilities to quickly heal Nathaniel’s stumps enough so they’re at least not bleeding everywhere.
Sir Loup approaches Sir Phillipon and asks that he put the second trial on hold for another week so that Nathaniel has time to recover from his injuries.
Sir Phillipon, still in a bit of shock himself, agrees to the week of respite.
Nathaniel smiles at the news before passing out.
End of Session.
