Game Days; 33rd Vorgenheim 2522 to 1st Geheimnistag 2522
After some first aid and a bit of magical care from Matt the party moved on.
Unable to find anything useful in the storeroom, they decide to take the next door on the left from the one they entered by.
This happens to be on the far end of the room, and leads them to a long corridor.
They follow the corridor to the left, leading them a fair distance before it turns to the right.
Here the corridor goes straight for a bit, before it starts to slant down into the depths.
There is a large door to the right before the decent downwards, after some debate the party decides to check it out before going downwards.
They find it leads to what looks like a large area for Dwarves to live in. The apartment like housing running off beyond the range of their light.
They hear goblin sounds in the distance that seem to be reacting to their light, and deciding they don’t want to face a small cities worth of Goblins by themselves the party closes the door and starts their decent.
The ramp goes on for a short while before reaching a short platform. This leads them to the left, and then to the right is another ramp downwards.
They follow this onwards for a fair distance, before it reaches another flat platform.
This one takes them to the left again, and then another ramp downwards. They realise it’s a very slow spiral leading downwards.
Eventually it comes to the next floor down.
There is a large open area shaped like a half dome away from the wall that continues on the left from the ramp exit.
Around the edge of the dome there is 5 large and impressive doors.
The centre of the dome has quite a number of statues and other artwork, but all of it has been defaced by the goblins.
This upsets Rorek quite a bit.
Rorek is unable to read so he can’t easily tell where the doors lead, but the party is able to make rough guesses based on what they can see of the remaining artwork on the doors.
One appears to be a brewery, another for stonework, the centre door for Runework, followed by blacksmithing, and finally jewellery smithing.
They listen at the doors, and hear some sort of fight going on in the brewing area.
They can also hear the clear ring of metal on metal from the blacksmithing area.
Rorek is quite annoyed at the idea of Goblins using Dwarven forges, and insists they go into that area.
They burst in to find over a score of goblins working in the area.
Rorek almost frenzies at the sight of a Dwarven forge disgraced by Goblins, and storms towards the closest group.
Nathaniel shouts out works of encouragement to Rorek, inspiring him to greater slaughter.
Rorek kills 8 Goblins in the first few seconds, leaping from group to group.
Matt shoots at a group, and is able to kill a number of Goblins before they can properly react.
Johann summons 2 metal arrows, but while they’re forming around his head most of the remaining Goblins are killed.
Rorek kills more, Matt shoots more, and Johann magic bolts a few goblins, and stabs some others.
After the Goblins are dead they go over the room for anything of use.
Most of the metal available appears to be old Goblin weapons, or broken Dwarven ones.
They do manage to find a decent Dwarven throwing axe, and the forging tools appear in good quality still.
They decide to just leave it all there however for when the rest of the expedition catches up.
They decide to lock the goblins into the brewery area by having Johann lock the door closed.
He uses one of the metal bars they brought with them to meld into various parts of the doors artwork, allowing it to become a solid brace across the door.
After a quick check of the other rooms, and not finding much, they head down to the next level.
Again it is a long sloping section in a spiral to lead them down to the next level.
The next floor down appears to be a very large open area, perhaps the largest cavern they’ve come across yet.
There is what appears to be a theatre in the rough centre of the area, and behind that what looks like it used to be garden.
The garden now seems to have been overtaken by fungus and mould, some of it glowing slightly.
As they shine their light over the fungal forest it seems to disturb the plants.
It’s then they realise that the plants themselves aren’t disturb, but rather a few squigs inside of it.
Matt shoots the first squig to come out of the forest, but its death cry results in a large amount of squigs stampeding out of the forest.
The party flees knowing they’d die if that many squigs caught up with them.
There’s a few close calls, but the party is able to get down to the next level and get a bit of distance between them and the squigs.
They burst into the first door they see, and slam it closed behind them.
They have Johann lock the door again, which is easier as it has a fair bit of metal on it.
Once they catch their breath they realise they must have entered a barraks area, because there was a lot of training equipment they ran past to get into this door.
The floor itself appears to be a bit of a maze of tight corridors.
They head through it, and Matt spots a Goblin up ahead.
Nathaniel steps up and shoots it, but fails to kill it in a single shot, it’s cries of pain ringing out in alert to any other Goblin who might be in the area.
The part advances more slowly, and the Goblins attempt to launch an ambush attack.
Matt avoids the attack easily, but the rest are wounded.
The fight is short, but fierce, and Johann goes down before Rorek is able to finish them all off.
Grabbing Johann they drag him into what appears to be an office, bar the door closed with some old furniture and set up for the night.
Using some potions, Matt’s healing, and then Johann’s first aid once he wakes up, the party is able to recover some of its fighting strength.
The party tries to sneak out of the barracks at this point, but when they’re nearly out of there Johann slips on something and yells out in surprise.
Two goblins appear to investigate the noise, and Matt tries to shoot them but for the first time in a while he misses his target.
More Goblins start to appear from around them, but the party decides to run away.
They burst out of the barracks, back into the training area, but on the far end away from the few squigs that had remained in the area overnight.
They start to run down the next ramp, but the Goblins are able to get into range to open fire on them with their bows.
The party decides to make a stand against the Goblins that managed to keep up, near 30 of them.
Rorek charges back the long distance, while the others attempt to provide covering fire.
Johann in an already injured state goes down after a few arrows, but by then Rorek has closed with them.
Bleeding himself, but still quite capable he is able to finish off those not taken down by ranged fire.
They grab Johann and continue down a safe distance.
They’re able to revive Johann with Matt’s magic, but he remains in a badly wounded state.
They decide to continue until they can find a safe place to lock up and rest up a bit more.
