After pushing on a bit more after meeting the elves, they eventually find the day darkening and have to set up camp for the night.
Between the difficulty of travelling through the thick forest, and the short Winter days, they find travel is going slowly.
This evening Matt is woken up during the night when the ward he set up around the village goes off.
He wakes up the others to let them know, but after discussing it they decide the best thing to do is to push on through the night as they know they’re close.
Johann summons a bright light to help them navigate, knowing that the Ghost is around the village they left behind.
With Matt navigating they’re able to find the ruins of a castle just after dawn has broken.
Matt sneaks up to the ruins and checks around the place. All that remains appears to be the grand hall, with the rest having collapsed long ago.
The door is ajar so looking through he sees that there are some dead Britonian peasants inside, but while the bodies have started to decompose there’s no sign of something coming in to eat them.
Johann makes his way up after the all clear from Matt, and slips through the large doors.
Opening himself to the Witchsight he sees that winds are most strongly coming from a doorway up the back of the hall.
Rorek follows him inside, and goes over to try and help Johann open up the doorway which appears to be stuck.
Despite both of them trying, they can’t get the door to budge.
Nathaniel has joined the others inside by this time, and decides to tease Matt about his strength and opening doors.
Letting it get under his skin a bit, Matt charges and is able to shove open the door a bit, but is a bit sore afterwards.
He does his best to hide it however, and rubs the fact that he opened it where a Dwarf failed in Rorek’s face.
Rorek doesn’t seem to notice, and just says it was about time the door was opened.
The back room is filled with stone and dirt from where one of the walls seems to have collapsed in a bit.
Johann takes some of their spare metal, and turns it into some basic mining and digging tools for them.
After most of a day they’ve cleared a good section out of the back room, but still haven’t uncovered whatever it is that’s causing the winds of magic.
With the sun coming down they decide it’d be best to find somewhere to set up a hidden camp.
Remembering that a tree had fallen onto to the roof, they decide it might be best to hide on the remain of the roof of the place.
Rorek attempts to go up the fallen tree, but it’s still just a bit too steep and he slides back down.
Matt is able to make his way carefully up using knives to dig into the tree on the way up, and then he lowers a rope to help the rest up.
Looking down through a hole in the roof they see the ghost appear suddenly after the sun has set.
It starts to ride off, but suddenly stops when it realises the place has been disturbed.
After searching around the place it fails to find the party, and rides off into the distance.
Once it has left the party decides they might as well push on a bit, despite their growing exhaustion from starting out so early.
Back in the room, with light provided by Johann again, they continue to clear things away.
They come across some more dead bodies, this time looking like they’ve been dead for hundreds of years, but there’s nothing of any real value upon them.
After a bit of searching they come across a trap door leading down to some sort of basement.
Rorek is able to force it open, and attempts to climb down the broken wooden stairs inside.
The old stairs collapse under his weight, and he lands roughly on the floor below.
Matt climbs down the side of the wall, and helps Rorek back up while trying not to laugh.
After the other two climb down with some assistance, they search around what appears to be an old food and wine cellar.
In the middle they find a dead body carefully wrapped up in a funeral shroud.
Johann warns the others that he can sense a large amount of the Amethyst wind has built up in the corpse.
Deciding it’s best not to disturb it without further study, they head out of the cellar to get some rest.
With some help from Matt everyone is able to make it up, even if it does take Johann four attempts to do so.
After some rough sleep, they wake up early again and head back down to the cellar.
Johann takes the time to convert their old digging tools to a make shift ladder for them to get in and out of the place easier.
Once in the cellar Johann opens up his Witchsight fully and sees that the Ghost is down here trying to attack them, but during the day it appears to be impotent.
Seeing that it’s sword can’t affect him, he leads it over to the small amount of sunlight entering from trapdoor from the collapsed ceiling above, and sees that he ghost can’t actually enter the light.
Leaving the cellar, Johann goes to the main hall to attempt to craft a mirror from some of their spare steel.
The attempt results in a miscast of energy, resulting in one of his arms temporarily turning into a tentacle, while a rain of frogs starts up in the main hall.
Once the others have calmed down about the situation, and his arm has returned to normal, Johann finishes the mirror, and they use it to chase the ghost around with the reflected sunlight.
They see it disturbs the ghost, but does not appear to harm it, only make it angry.
Johann and Matt attempt to cast various spells to injure the ghost while it can’t fight back, but none of them seem to have any effect upon it.
Realising this isn’t getting them anywhere, Johann just bends the mirror slightly to refract sunlight throughout the room, chasing off the ghost through a nearby wall.
Then Johann goes over and starts to study the corpse that is there.
After a full day of study he’s started to see the complex curse upon the body, and thinks he has an idea about how to remove it and put the ghost to rest.
They have discussion about if they should given the Elves warning, but they decide it’s for the best.
That evening they head back up to the roof to get their rest.
Just in case the ghost comes after them, Johann enchants Rorek’s axes to better strike against the ghost.
The ghost rides out after sunset, but despite looking around for them again it fails to notice them and rides off into the forest to continue looking for them.
15 Ulriczeit to 18 Ulriczeit
Over the next 3 days they repeat the process of Johann studying the curse upon the dead body, before retreating to the roof again in the evening.
Nathaniel uses the opportunity to continue practising his Britonian, while Rorek practices his axe work.
Matt meanwhile explores the forest a bit, getting to know the native plants more.
At the end of the 3rd day they retreat to the roof again, and go to their usual places to hide from the ghost.
This time however as it’s riding off to search for them, it spots a bit of moonlight reflect off one of Rorek’s axes, and starts charging towards them.
Much to all of their surprise it’s invisible steed seems to have no problem riding right up the fallen tree log towards them.
The fight is short, but vicious.
Johann and Matt unload with their various magical tricks upon it, while Rorek uses his enchanted axes to finally be able to solidly strike it.
They’re able to bring down the ghost quicker this time with Rorek being able to strike properly, but not before the ghost manages to badly injure Johann, and lightly injure Matt.
After healing up a bit overnight, the next day Johann is able to finish his research about the curse.
However he figures out a small ritual will be involved in removing it, and he’ll need more time then they have left in the day.
So that night they set themselves up for a fight, and unleash upon the ghost as soon as it appears.
This time they bring it down even faster, but that’s partly due to it’s almost suicidal charge to take down Johann before it dies again for the night.
Johann is badly injured again, and Matt’s priestly magic is only able to help some of it.
Bandaging himself up, Johann insists he’ll be fine, and they go to sleep for the night.
The next day they’re finally able to put Johann’s new ritual into effect to end the curse.
It goes fairly well, but due to the rushed design of the ritual there’s a bit of backlash against Johann and Rorek.
Still they come out fairly well from the situation.
Nathaniel decides to claim the sword that was left upon the dead Britonian, to return it to a living Lord, and they leave the building.
Once outside they use a mixture of Johann’s magic, and pulling on weak walls with rope to cause the rest of the ruins to collapse in on themselves.
21 Ulriczeit to 25 Ulriczeit
Heading straight back to the village they left behind, they manage to avoid the Elves on their way out of the forest.
Back at the village they find that two people where killed while they were away, on that night Matt sensed his ward had been tripped.
It turns out a few of the villagers had gotten cocky after the ghost had not returned for a few nights, but after that everyone stuck indoors again.
Nathaniel informs them that they should be safe from the ghost now, as it has been put to rest.
He keeps the sword hidden from them, and has the party leave the village.
Once out of sight of the village he discusses with the party what to do with the sword.
They decide to take a small detour to drop it off at the closest Bristonian castle.
End of Session.
