The next morning they head off, leaving their entourage at the village.
Rorek is able to convince Matt to let him bring his dog along.
They decide 3 weeks of rations should be enough to last them on their journey.
Before setting off Matt takes up the time to mark a rough circle around the village, and sets up a ward to allow him to know if anything evil crosses into that defined area.
After travelling for a day they set up camp for the night, with Matt setting up another smaller ward just around them.
Despite this ward they decide to still have a rotating guard shift.
When it’s Rorek’s turn on watch he fails to notice something coming in from the direction of the forest, however Matt is woken up when something crosses the line of his ward. Matt quickly rouses Johann, and tells Rorek to get ready for something. He tries to wake up Nathaniel, but can’t seem to do so without making too much noise.
Eventually they see what looks like a humanoid figure floating off the ground and coming in quickly. Rorek runs over and puts a solid boot into Nathaniel’s side to wake him, but not hard enough to break anything.
Johann not sure what they’re facing casts a spell to make his skin and clothes more resilient.
Matt prepares his bow, and tries to get a better vantage point to see what the approaching figure is.
All of a sudden the figure picks up speed, passing by quickly with an ethereal lance catching Matt in the shoulder and badly injuring him.
The figure appears to be a Bretonian knight in Full Plate riding about, however there doesn’t appear to be any horse for it to ride upon.
Rorek manages to jump up, catching the ghost as it rides past with his two axes, but they seem to only mildly disturb the figure.
Johann summons up some magical arrows, preparing them to strike out.
Matt takes a moment to look after his shoulder while Nathaniel and Rorek set themselves for another pass by the Ghost.
As it comes in with its lance again Nathaniel tries to disarm it, but his weapon just does not appear to be that effective against the ethereal weapon.
The lance catches Rorek, with his armour not quite working as effectively as it should be.
Rorek decides to set himself up to guard the others, hoping that Matt’s priestly blessing and Johann’s magic will be more effective.
Matt summons a holy claw to attack the ghost, which seems to badly injure it.
This is soon followed up by Johann’s magical arrows, which solidly connect with the ghost.
The ghost turns its attention on Johann, and goes to ride him down.
Nathaniel again tries to disarm the ghost on the way in, but again to no avail.
The ghost’s lance badly injures Johann on the pass, but Rorek is able to hit him again with another two axe swings.
While the axes don’t appear to be as effective as what Matt and Johann are doing, they still seem to disrupt the form of the ghost.
Nathaniel yells out to inspire the others to hold on and defeat this single insane opponent.
Johann ties to hit the ghost with his staff as it passes, but misses wildly, however it’s enough of a distraction for Matt to put two arrows right through the ghosts head which seems to cause it to break apart.
After taking a moment to catch their breath Johann starts looking around with his Witchsight, and sees that the winds of Shyish coming strongly from the forest.
Taking a bit of time to study it, he figures that there’s some sort of curse involved, and that this likely won’t be the last ghost that they see on their journey.
After another day of travel they set up camp again just a few hundred meters away from Athel Loren.
Matt attempts to set up another ward again, but something interferes with it taking hold upon the land.
After guessing that the ghosts will likely leave the forest soon after midnight they get a bit of early sleep, and then get up to wait for it.
Johann’s guess is correct, and they see it riding out of the forest towards them.
After some inspiring words from Nathaniel they unleash everything they can upon the ghost.
Johann’s magic arrows are summoned and start building up force around his head.
Matt runs towards the fast incoming ghost, and unleashes another magical claw at it which seems to badly hurt it.
Rorek places himself in front of Johann and Nathaniel in a guarded position.
Nathaniel knowing he seems to have nothing much he can do to hurt the ghost also places himself in a guarded position against any potential attacks.
The ghost pulls away from baring down upon the main group, and instead strikes out at Matt with a solid hit.
Johann casts a spell to turn his skin metal again as the ghost continues on towards them.
Rorek rushes the ghost as it approaches and scores a solid hit, however most of the force continues to pass right through it.
It’s still enough of a distraction for Matt, still standing despite his wounds, to quickly fire off three arrows into the ghosts retreating back.
The ghost is about to lance Rorek when his dog jumps and shoving Rorek out of the way takes it as a glancing hit causing it to yelp badly in pain.
Johann’s arrows have built up force by this time and unleash upon it striking for hits that seem to treat the ghost as a solid entity.
Nathaniel continues to defend himself, and Rorek moves back in to help defend him as well as Johann who’s metal skin returns to flesh.
Matt is able to get another arrow off, hitting the ghost in the side as it turns around from it’s last charge.
Charging back in the Ghost gets its lance past Rorek and drives it right into Johann’s gut, causing him immense pain.
Johann is still able to just finish his spell, and causes the ghosts ethereal armour to magically heat up, it appears to be screaming in pain but no sound can be heard.
Matt attempts to strike it with the magical claw again, but the ghost is able to avoid it.
Rorek is still unsure what he can do to hurt it, and continues trying to just guard everyone.
Nathaniel decides to pull out his pistol and attempt to shoot it, but the shot goes wide in the dark.
The Ghost turns around again, and this time bares down upon Nathaniel.
Rorek side steps it, letting the ghost past, who does badly lance Nathaniel just as a magic bolt from Johann hits it.
Rorek then launches himself at the Ghosts back, and with a hard double swing manages to decapitate the ghosts head from its body, causing it to dissipate again.
Matt takes time to use this healing magic on the party, but Johann is still left with a semi-serious wound.
The next morning the party decides it might be best if they don’t face the ghost every night on their journey towards wherever it is coming from.
So instead of heading directly towards where it’s coming from, they head slightly North from there, and make sure to set up camp in a secluded area in the forest.
They take the opportunity to heal up some more, and Matt’s priestly magic is able to remove the last of the serious wounds that Johann is suffering from.
As they head deeper into the forest it becomes darker and harder to navigate.
Matt even manages to get lost at one point, but Johann takes a moment to figure out the maths of where exactly they should be and get them back on track.
He’s a bit uncertain though, as Nathaniel agrees with him entirely, and Johann knows how bad at navigating Nathaniel really is.
As the sun starts to set and the forest gets darker they worry for a while as they have trouble finding a clearing large enough to set up camp in.
Eventually they’re able to find one, and they sleep fine for the night.
By this morning the last of their previous wounds have fully closed up, just leaving a few scars upon their bodies.
Spending another day travelling they eventually find another clearing and set up for the night.
Johann is able to help them get a rough sense of barrings by using his Witchsight to locate some of the Shyish winds that still seem strong in the area, and figure out what direction they seem to be coming from.
The next day as they head out Matt notices something following them from high up in the tree tops.
Stealthily dropping back from the other three party members, he’s able to get behind whatever it is and sees that it is elvers.
He then yells out to them to let them know he could have had the drop on them.
They don’t seem very impressed with him.
One of them starts to quickly climb down the tree it is on, while Matt starts to climb up another one to meet him halfway.
The Elf speaks to him first in Britonian, and then in Reikspiel when it sees Matt is still struggling wiht that language.
In a very heated tone, it asks Matt what him and the other party members are doing in the forest.
Matt explains about the ghost attacks, and that they are hunting the source of the attacks to put an end to it.
The Elf tells him that what they’re hunting in a dead Britonian who had been cursed by the elves for his arrogance to forever be trapped within his crumbling castle.
However recently some stupid young humans had distrubed the castle and set the dead Bristonian free to wonder, before the magic called him back each evening.
The Elf tells him that they are free to close up the crumbling castle again, but if they end the curse they shall be marked as enemies of the Elves of Athel Loren.
Matt agrees to this, and the Elf can’t tell he’s lying, so the Elf lets them go with a warning.
Matt climbs back down the tree, informs the others of what the Elf said, and they all decide to push onwards.
End of Session.
