After taking down the troll the party spends some time gathering up what loot they can, such as the Goblin King’s crown which Nathaniel claims.
Knowing they’re in no condition to face another fight if any Goblins come looking into what happened, they head off into the side passages and barricade themselves in.
After resting up for an evening, and Matt using his blessings to help boost, they move out to continue exploring the area.
They come across some Goblins that were exploring the area and looking into what was going on, they rush the Goblins who very quickly flee in terror as a few of them are struck down.
While exploring they find the room where it looks like the Goblin King was living. It’s a bit of a mess, so they decide to mark the door so they can come back to it later and see if it has anything worthwhile.
After exploring most of the floor they get curious as to some of the noises they keep hearing.
Nathaniel and Johann decide to start setting up a camp in another room again, and while they’re cooking dinner Matt and Rorek do a final hunt around for Goblins.
They’re unable to find any more, so they all retire for the night.
After a make do breakfast they go to explore the Goblin King’s bedroom. While they find a few things of interest, they don’t find any real sign of treasure which makes them quite curious as to where the gold of the fortress could be.
They find that they’re a back door to the King’s bedroom which leads to an empty guards room, with a secret side door that leads back to a barracks they had found earlier on the level.
However the main thing that catches the interest of the party is a large reinforced door. The door itself has been forced open, with what looks like Goblin work.
Opening up the door again leads to a corridor with a number of dead Goblin corpses in it, with obvious signs they set off various trap mechanisms.
Taking their time to carefully pick their way forward, with Matt leading the way, they are able to make their way down the corridor avoiding anything that looks like it might set off another trap.
Open reaching the door they get Johann to craft some picks out of the metal they have, and then Matt is able to open up the front door.
Past that door they find a short hallway branching off to the right and left.
Off this hallway appears to be a number of vault doors, behind which Rorek is convinced there will be quite a fair bit of treasure.
Looking for traps, and not finding anything, they decide to try and breach one of the vaults.
Rorek and Johann do their best to assist Matt, as he looks into the complicated locking mechanism of the door.
It takes them a while, but they’re eventually able to pry the door open.
At first they’re quite happy to see the vault open to show a large amount of treasure, but their joy is soon dashed when slits in the roof open and they feel heat suddenly flood the room. Over the next few minutes they see a slow steady amount of molten rock start to drip down from the holes in the roof.
Avoiding the molten rock from the roof leads to them huddling at the Northern end of the hallway.
Here they hear sounds coming from beyond the wall, and quickly start doing their best to break through the wall.
The sound gets louder, but the growing puddles of molten rock are starting to grow.
Before they get too big however, the wall gives way and they come across a mining crew belonging to Beligson.
They’re pulled to safety, and catch up with Beligson about what has been going on.
After telling him of their journey, he explains how they attempted to be the first to make it to the treasure vaults, letting Lokrisson claim the main keep at the cost of not getting the treasure itself.
However Beligson explains that by them making it to the treasure room first, they’ve kind of messed up his plans.
He asks if they’d be willing to pay back their life debt by agreeing to lie to Lokrisson about who found the vaults first.
Rorek is very put off by the deal, as lying is dishonourable, but at the same time he feels breaking a life debt would be even worse.
Beligson offers to sweeten the deal with a small share each of the treasure.
After some prompting from the others he eventually agrees to lie, and so do the others.
4 to 12 Nachgeheim
Over the course of the next week they’re able to help Lokrisson claim the rest of the fortress, and prevent a conflict breaking out between him and Beligson.
Lokrisson is quite angry that Beligson made it to the vaults first, but is otherwise happy with the work that the party was able to achieve.
13 to 23 Nachgeheim
Over the next 10 days they slowly make their way back to Kazak Norn.
The journey goes fairly smoothly.
After a night of rest they are eventually summoned by Thane Lokrisson.
He formally thanks them for their services, and offers to pay them their share of the wealth recovered.
He offers an alternative bargain instead of the payment though, offering to have his best smith to construct a suit of Plate for Nathaniel.
After a quick discussion in private with the others, they decide to take up this offer.
On their way back to their quarters they’re invited to a meeting with Thane Beligson.
There he offers them a similar deal, however stating that the treasure vaults turned up less worth then the entirety of the keep in total.
As such they get a suit of Plate made for Rorek, but it’s only of a standard quality instead of a superior make like Nathaniel’s will be.
25 Nachgeheim to 22 Erntzeit
It takes many weeks of measurements and fittings, but eventually the suits of Plate are completed.
The Overseer makes one more appeal to Nathaniel that heading into Elven territory would be suicide, and for whatever reason he decides to listen for once.
Much to the shock of others, he declares they will now be turning their convoy around, and heading down South through the Empire, to cross into Britonia around the south of the Elven forest.
End of Session.
